Vietnam’s economy is among the fastest growing within ASEAN, with a young and increasingly wealthy population of around 90 million. Increased engagement between the two countries has been driven initially through development aid, then by increased industrialization providing business opportunities and rapid growth in in-bound international student numbers. Now one of Australia’s largest trading partners, the importance of the relationship is supported by the fact that approximately 250,000 Australians claim Vietnamese heritage at the last census.
